Burps & Bibs

Friends and Family, once again we are absolutely blown away by ALL the love, support and encouragement we have received on this road of adoption. We are thrilled to share that we are only $500 away from meeting our financial goal!!!! How is this even possible?? Less than a year ago, when we set out on this journey, our adoption fund was zilch, nada, non-existent. Between extreme generosity, a couple successful fundraisers and liquidating some assets, we’ve nearly got $28,000!!! Only God can pull something like this off!! Seriously!!

In an effort to bring in the last $500, we’re having one last sale. This time it’s a Baby Sale, plus coffee mug cozies because we all know parents can’t live without coffee! Once again with this fundraiser, many people have labored in love to create some practical cuteness for babies and to make life for more comfortable for parents.

The format of this shop is similar to one you’d find on Etsy. Each item has a price and shipping fee (unless you choose local pickup). Everything is priced comparable to what you’d find on Etsy. It’d mean the world to us if you’d share our store with your friends and family!!

I don’t sew and in the preparation of this sale, it turns out I’m no good at even cutting fabric to be sewn… :-/ BUT there are some amazing, talented, giving people that do have skills. Let the shout outs begin: the Riehl’s, Natalie, Heather, Callie, Sydney, Sharon, Amy, Jenna and Rachel. Big thanks to Stephanie and Amber for loaning us equipment. We thank God for the way you have touched our family and pray blessings over each one of you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. We pray we can return the blessing.

“My Mom Gave My Little Sister Away”

Last Wednesday, we had the honor and privilege of sharing about adoption during service at our church, Rocky Mountain Calvary.  After service, several people shared with us how adoption has touch their lives.   It was encouraging, refreshing and a huge blessing.

One particular interaction was especially meaningful.  A young man, a little rough around the edges, walked right up to us.  He had a quiet confidence about him.  Without even introducing himself, he immediately began to share his story.  “My Mom gave my little sister away.  It was the hardest thing I’ve ever seen her do.”  Then added more details, like how well his little sister was doing.  He got choked up as he shared about holding her in the hospital for 30 minutes without taking his eyes off of her, because he knew his sister would be going home with her adoptive family.  Dan and I were hanging on every word.  All of the noise and activity of the foyer disappeared.  Tears were filling our eyes.  Then he thanked us, “It’s good to see good families like yours adopting.”  He shared he’s been out of a job, so earlier that day he came in to the church looking for work and one of the facility managers paid him $20 to shovel some snow. He wanted to give it to us. This young man gave us every penny he had earned that day.  Talk about being humbled.  The most precious $20 ever – the widow’s mites.  All of the other stories shared that night were also very meaningful, thought-provocking and encouraging, but this young man made a lasting impression in our hearts.  Lord, bless this guy, meet him where he is and may He know your love in a deeper way each day.

Here’s the video of our “interview” with our Pastor:

Thanks, again, for taking the time to keep up with what’s going on with our adoption!

Our Adoption Story

How To Help

If you’d like to join us on our adoption journey here’s a few practical ways you can get involved.

  1. Pray for us, for the child we will eventually adopt, and for the birth parents of this child.
  2. Go to our YouCaring site and make a donation.
  3. Purchase a hand-made Christmas ornament from our Give Love Page.

Thank you so much to everyone who’s been walking this path with us.  Our home study is almost complete and we’ll have an update about that soon.
